Save money with cheap movers

4 November, 2011

Moving is costly. Although you may try to cut cost by performing some tasks on your own, some costs are unavoidable. If you are moving out of state, you may not be able to avoid some services provided by long distance movers.

To save some amount money and time, planning is crucial. Months before your planned move, gather all information you need and do your research. This may not sound very attractive but think of the possible amount of money you will save. Invest some time in researching movers that can cater to your needs at reasonable price. Some moving companies offer great discounts during off peak season. If this fits your schedule then go ahead and save.

Cost also depends on the distance you are moving to. If you think you can manage across states without long distance movers, have you taken into account the truck rental? The fuel costs and possible fees at motels? Is it cheaper and less stressful to hire movers and fly to your new city? Analyze all this factors and you will be able to avoid last minute costly expenditure.

Before you jump on hiring the cheapest movers, read their quotation carefully. Know what your quotation includes. Things such as insurance can easily be taken for granted. One of the easiest ways to save some money is to reduce the load you are moving with. Let go of things that you no longer need and donate your old books and clothes that you hardly wear. You can even organize a garage sale.

With research, make sure that you are able to move into your new home as soon as you arrive. This will save you storage charges and/or transit fees. Movers offer many services from packing to unpacking at your new home. Look through their packages and decide on which services you can live without. Do you have special items that need special packing or moving equipment? If you think you can pack your own belongings than don’t buy the ‘packing’ option. Ask some of your friends and family to help you and cook them a nice dinner in exchange.

Search for a company which has been in the industry for a long time. See how many neighborhoods or cities they serve. Big companies may not necessarily mean expensive. It can be quite the opposite. Because of their volume and networking, they may be the cheaper option.
